Jet Airways have been flying from Heathrow to Amritsar 6 days a week but due to the recent economic downturn, they have discontinued this service effective from 1 December 2008. The resultant connect flight via Delhi means longer journey times (an increase of between 4-9 hours). Other than the inconvenience to travellers (many of whom are from Ealing-Southall) the economy of Amritsar will also be adversely effected. Therefore, it is important that steps are taken to ensure the viability of Amritsar airport as well as reinstating the direct flights. To add my voice in support of those affected, I have written a letter to the Indian Prime Minister to intervene.
