Cllr Gurcharan Singh, has blasted the Labour Government’s parting gift for Ealing and Southall: the likely closure of Ealing Hospital’s A&E department.
Follow up:
According to a leaked NHS London document, six A&E departments in North West London including Ealing Hospital are in the firing line for cuts in a bid to address a £5billion NHS funding shortfall.
If true, Ealing and Southall patients suffering major trauma such as life-threatening or multiple injuries, will be taken to The Royal London, St George's, King's College or St Mary's Hospitals and those suffering a stroke will be taken to Northwick Park or Charing Cross Hospital and then transferred to Hillingdon or West Middlesex Hospitals for their after care.
Cllr Gurcharan Singh, said that the leaked proposals would mean Ealing, Hanwell and Southall residents having to travel unacceptable distances for emergency care. He said:
“First the Labour Government announced taking away the stroke service from Ealing Hospital, now it seems there are plans afoot to take away our accident and emergency unit."
“The people of Ealing, Hanwell and Southall depend on Ealing Hospital and should not be expected to travel many miles through heavy traffic to go somewhere futher afield in an emergency. I have set up a petition on my website to demonstrate the strength of public feeling on this issue. We cannot let the Government slip this one through.”
